Dealing with Extreme CPU Temperature Spikes

I've been running my self-built PC for a while now and monitoring my temperatures using HWINFO. Lately, I've noticed some alarming CPU Die temperature spikes, hitting as high as 111.8°C. These spikes have been happening every few days and seem to be gradually increasing over time. I'm looking for advice on what might be causing this and how to resolve it.

Here's my setup:
- MSI X670E GAMING PLUS WIFI Motherboard
- AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Processor
- Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX Graphics Card
- be quiet! Silent Loop 3 360mm AIO Liquid Cooler

Sometimes, HWINFO can throw out ghost readings, especially if there’s interference from other software like MSI Center. You should also check CPU Die (Average) versus CPU Tctl/Tdie readings. If only one sensor hits 111.8°C while the others are normal, it points to a possible software glitch. During an actual temperature spike, your CPU clock speeds should also drop significantly—if everything runs smoothly, it could really just be a sensor issue.

That's helpful! I’ve got MSI Center running; I’ll switch HWINFO back to full monitoring. Should I focus on "Average Effective Clock" for tracking?

First thing you might want to consider is repasting your CPU. Those spikes are super high, and thermal paste might not be covering the CPU Die properly. If you've been using a paste that liquefies at high temperatures, it might be escaping and not doing its job. I recommend getting some Arctic MX-6—it’s known for good performance.

Is it really that simple? I noticed the spikes only last for a short time, usually under 2 minutes.
