Did I Mess Up by Not Using a Domain Broker?

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to this and I think I might've made a mistake. I just found this subreddit and I'm wondering if I should have used a domain broker instead of going through ICANN to contact a domain owner directly. I found their contact link and submitted a request, but now I'm feeling a bit lost. Should I have just paid the $69 to go through Sedo? Am I in trouble here?

Reaching out directly is totally okay; lots of people do it. A domain broker like Sedo is helpful if you’re not sure about negotiating or want confidentiality, but it's not strictly necessary. Wait to see if the owner replies first; if things get tricky, you can always bring in a broker later.

If the domain's not in use, some people think it might be for sale, but there's no guarantee. Checking ICANN might not show you if it's for sale or not. Since you reached out directly, you've potentially saved that $69, but some owners prefer dealing with brokers for negotiations.

Just so you know, the $69 fee is basically just to talk to the owner—not for actually getting the domain. Most likely, unless the owner is open to selling, you won’t get it just from that. So trying to contact them directly is a good move!
