Did My RAM Upgrade Break My PC?

I'm in a bit of a bind here! I have a B450M Steel Legend motherboard and was using a single 8GB stick of Asgard DDR4 3600MHz RAM. Today, I decided to upgrade to two new Corsair Vengeance LPX sticks (2x16GB, also DDR4 3600MHz). I installed them in the second and fourth slots (A2 and B2), but now my PC powers on without any display. It stays on for about 40 seconds, then enters a loop where it turns off and back on again. I tried putting my old RAM back in, but it's doing the same thing now. No display and just cycling on and off. What did I do wrong? 😢

It could just be doing some memory training, which is what happens when you install new RAM. Give it some time—like, just go take a break and let it figure itself out. It's a bit unsettling if you're not familiar with it.

Should I leave both sticks in for the memory training, or just one? I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

Yep! This is probably it. It can be pretty scary if you're new to it. Just walk away for a bit and see what happens.

Try removing the RAM, clear the CMOS, and then put the RAM back in. If it doesn't work after that, consider returning the Corsair RAM and trying a different brand.

How do I clear the CMOS?
