I'm getting ready to assemble my new PC with a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 3070. I'm considering a used power supply unit, and I'm wondering if I should stick with 80 Plus Gold certification, or if Bronze or Silver from a reputable brand like Corsair or Seasonic would be sufficient?

Just a heads up: don't skimp on your PSU. It provides clean power to all your components, and having a cheap or underpowered PSU can lead to issues down the line. It's fine to go for a reputable brand like Corsair or EVGA, and having a little extra capacity can save you headaches later!

The thing is, I’m going with like a Corsair or EVGA because they are reputable brands. I did research and 650W is more than enough headroom. It’s just that I was worried about the bronze labeling.

While Bronze rated PSUs are acceptable, it's always a good idea to invest in quality components, especially for something as crucial as your PSU. Gold or Platinum rated units are more efficient and often have better quality parts.

The certification levels like Bronze and Gold mainly measure efficiency, not necessarily the build quality of the PSU. You could take a look at the SPL PSU tier list online; aiming for Tier B or better is a solid choice for your setup.

Oh right right! Thanks a lot man

It is a corresponding measurement of quality. That's what enables the higher efficiency.

A 750W Bronze PSU should work just fine! I ran a similar setup with a 3070 Ti for about three years without any issues.

Oh cool. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it
