Do I need the BitLocker recovery key if I’ve backed up my C drive?

Hey everyone! I have a quick question regarding BitLocker and backups. I'm using Windows 11 on a Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5. Recently, I tried to boot Linux Mint from a USB, but instead, I was met with the BitLocker recovery screen. Luckily, my PC automatically booted into Windows, and all my files are safe, but I'm concerned about future issues with BitLocker. Since I've already backed up my C drive to an external HDD, do I still need to have the BitLocker recovery key just in case I encounter that screen again? I'd appreciate any advice on this! Thanks!

Just make sure to have that recovery key handy. It's a small hassle to have, but if anything goes wrong and your access is blocked, you'll really appreciate having it! It could save you from a lot of trouble down the line.

I agree! Plus, if there's no hassle to keep it safe, why not just do it? It’s better to have it and not need it than vice versa.

Honestly, it's pretty smart to have a copy of the recovery key. You never know when a system update or something unexpected might lock you out again. It's just a 48-digit number, and writing it down on paper is a simple safety measure. Better safe than sorry! You can get the key by running a command in PowerShell or the Command Prompt if you need help with that.
