How to Dual Boot Zorin and Windows on 120GB SSD?

I'm looking to set up a dual boot on my laptop with Zorin and Windows to take advantage of the benefits of both operating systems. Right now, I have a 120GB SSD, and I'm uncertain about how to partition it for dual booting. Should I divide the 120GB into two partitions for Zorin and Windows, and if so, how should I go about this? I'm willing to reinstall Windows if necessary to make this work. Alternatively, is it better to keep Windows on the SSD since it tends to use more resources and run Zorin off an SD card or an external SSD? I'm new to dual booting, so I really need some guidance!

Honestly, 120GB is on the smaller side for a dual boot setup. However, it's doable. You might want to allocate around 50GB for Windows and 70GB for Zorin. The good news is you don't need to delete your existing Windows setup—just use 'Disk Management' in Windows to shrink your partition and create a new one for Zorin. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials that show you how to do it easily.

Thanks! I didn't realize I could make a new partition without reinstalling Windows. That makes things easier.

You can easily allocate space for Zorin while keeping your Windows installation. The Zorin installer has a feature that lets you shrink your Windows partition by dragging a slider. Just be mindful that 120GB is a bit tight; expect to need at least 15GB or more once you start adding applications. You can check out the official install guide for more details on using the installer.

Good to know! I wasn't sure if the installer would handle everything for me. Thanks for the tip!

Before installing Zorin, install Windows fully first. Then, proceed with the Zorin installation. Zorin creates a bootloader (GRUB) that allows you to choose which OS to boot into, so you’re set either way!
