Do PC WiFi Antennas Actually Improve Signal Reception?

I'm having some serious issues with my PC's WiFi connection since my router is downstairs and I'm up on the second floor. I can't run an Ethernet cable, so I was thinking about buying an external WiFi antenna to boost my signal, specifically a $20 one from Amazon that connects via two ports. Will this actually help improve my connection, which is currently at 1 bar or sometimes none?

WiFi might not always be the best option for a desktop. If you're looking for a more stable connection, consider getting a powerline adapter. It's pretty simple: plug one into the wall near your router and connect it with an Ethernet cable, then plug the second one where your PC is. It uses your home's electrical circuit for a wired connection, which can be way more reliable, especially if your WiFi isn't strong.

Did your PC come with antennas? Make sure you have the ports available. I had terrible signal before I installed my antennas; I went from 1 bar to 4 bars with just a little upgrade. The distance matters, though, so I hope this helps!

No, it didn't come with antennas since I've been using Ethernet for a couple of years. I guess I've never needed them, but now that I’m relying on WiFi, I think I need to fix this connection issue.

Absolutely! If your PC has antenna ports for WiFi, you should definitely use them. The WiFi card won't operate at its best without them. Most motherboards come with an antenna, so check if yours has one installed.

If you've got a WiFi card, those antennas should help you out, but it really depends on your specific setup. I can't guarantee how much they'll improve things, but it's worth a shot!
