I'm reaching out for some advice on the best Linux distributions for an aging Lenovo T61 laptop, which has 2GB of RAM and a Core2 Duo T7100 processor. The primary use will be light activities like web browsing and working with LibreOffice. I was considering Mint with the XFCE desktop environment, but I'd love to hear if there are better options out there that could enhance performance. It's important that the setup is user-friendly since the end user is a senior. Thanks a lot!

Mint XFCE is solid, but make sure to watch out for RAM requirements. If you want to explore more options, the distro selection page on the Linux wiki is super helpful! Oh, and don't forget to back up your data and maybe test things out in a virtual machine before full installation!

Thanks for the tips! I appreciate the heads up about backups and testing in a VM!

You might want to check out Q4OS! It runs really well on older machines, and you can even choose an interface that mimics Windows XP, which could make it more familiar for seniors. There are some great setup guides available online too!

Have you considered Bodhi Linux 7.0 HWE? It's lightweight and should perform decently on your T61, plus it's designed with simplicity in mind, which is perfect for easier usage.
