Hey everyone, I'm curious about how you all handle your window manager setups. Do you typically create your own custom configurations, or do you find yourself using the presets that come with your installations? Personally, I'm wondering if I'll have to go through the setup process every time I install a new Linux distribution.

I prefer to have things my own way, so I keep my configurations in a git repo. It’s super easy to set up on a new system—just clone my repo and move the config files into place. The default sway settings that come with Ubuntu? Not a chance, they look awful! I’ve even thought about writing a script to automate this further.
I usually roll with what’s available. Right now, I have about six different color configurations for Hyprland. They make it easy to switch things up without needing to start completely from scratch.
Honestly, I don't have the time to customize everything. I just stick with what's pre-installed and tweak it only if I really need to. I mean, I mainly use LXDE, which is pretty much a pre-configured version of OpenBox. Sometimes I’ll use CrunchBang++, and with PuppyLinux, I just roll with JWM as it comes. I like to keep it simple and use the right tool for the job.
For me, I start with the presets but I don’t hesitate to modify them over time. My setup evolves gradually. Initially, I chose a default for my WM, but then I switched up the polybar with a dock preset and created some custom modules. It’s a fun process!
