Experiencing Freezes with New 5060TI – Is My CPU to Blame?

Hey everyone! I just upgraded my graphics card from a Sapphire 5600 XT 6GB to a 5060TI 16GB, and while the graphics look improved, I've started encountering freezing issues that weren't there before. I've already updated all the drivers and double-checked my connections. Could this problem be related to my CPU, which is a Ryzen 5 3600? I'm also contemplating returning the 5060TI and getting a 9060XT instead. Here's my full PC build for reference:
- AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor
- Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler
- MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
- Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME SSD
- Corsair CX650 (2017) 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

When you mention freezes, are they more like stuttering during gameplay or is your entire OS unresponsive? Have you thought about reinstalling Windows? That might clear up some issues as well.

Yeah, I get stuttering in games like Hell Divers 2, where it freezes completely. I had to reboot my PC to get back in.

What other storage do you have? If you're still using an HDD, stutters can happen. Luckily, I see you have the Samsung 970 Evo, which is a fast NVMe SSD. That should help minimize lag.

Your CPU is a bit older, but it should still handle 1080p gaming well. The 5060TI alone shouldn’t be causing stutters unless it’s defective. Check your CPU usage in the task manager while gaming; if it's maxed out, that could explain the stuttering.

I checked and my CPU usage hit 70% and sometimes even 99% during tests like Hell Let Loose. It stutters even at 70%!

When switching from AMD to NVIDIA (or vice versa), it's crucial to clean up old drivers to avoid conflicts. I recommend using **Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)**. Boot into **Safe Mode**, run DDU (choose the ‘Run and Shutdown’ option), then swap your GPU and install the latest drivers. This process can help resolve those pesky freezes you’re experiencing!

Could using DDU after swapping GPUs damage my new card?
