I had an internet issue a couple of months ago where my upload speed dropped to nearly nothing, even though my download speed was fine. I have a 500/500 plan, but my upload was only about 0.2 Mbit/s, making basic browsing impossible. After contacting my ISP, they suspected a problem between the wall outlet and my computer. They sent me a new router to try, but that didn't help. Eventually, I bought a new cable, which fixed the problem. Now, just a month later, the same upload issue has returned. My download speed is still great, but the upload is back down to around 0.2 Mbit/s, and I'm stuck using my phone's hotspot. I'm wondering what could be causing this recurring problem. Is it possible that the cable got damaged again, or is there a deeper issue at play? I can't afford to keep buying new cables every month.

It sounds really frustrating! Since you mentioned that the cable from the ONT to the router is the one you replaced before, it could be worth checking if there’s any wear and tear on it again. Sometimes cables can get damaged from bending or being stepped on. Additionally, consider inspecting the connectors and ports for any dust or corrosion that might be affecting the signal.
Another angle to explore is whether your ISP might be throttling your upload speed or if there are any network issues in your area. Have you tried contacting them again to see if they can run diagnostics? It might also help to test a different router if you have access to one, just to rule that out as a potential issue as well.
I haven't contacted them yet, but I think it's a good idea. I’ll reach out and see if they can check for any issues.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll definitely check the ports and see if I notice any signs of damage on the cable.
