I've had my AirPod Pro 2s for about two years. Initially, I used them with both my personal and work iPhones, but after switching back to just my personal phone, I ran into issues with the Find My app. When I left my job, I removed the AirPods from the iCloud account linked to my work phone, hoping to regain ownership under my personal account. Unfortunately, the problems didn't resolve. Factory resets and the repairing process seem to have made things worse; now I'm getting errors like 'AirPod Setup Incomplete' and 'AirPod Mismatch.'
I've spent two hours on the phone with Apple Support, which involved a lot of hold time and troubleshooting steps. They initially suggested a replacement, but during a follow-up call, the only option was to send them in for service at a charge of $265. This seems outrageous, especially since the AirPods are commonly available new for around $170. I don't believe this is a hardware issue, but rather a backend problem with Apple's systems. Is there a way to resolve this without incurring such a hefty fee?

I ran into a similar issue with my AirPods Pro 2 not connecting properly with Find My. I tried removing them from my account and re-adding them, but it only led to more problems, like one pod not working at all. After some hassle, I made an appointment at the Apple Store where they did a diagnostic and ended up replacing a defective pod and case. It still didn’t work initially, but after a few more replacements, they eventually sent me a working set. So, it seems like your AirPods might be damaged too. Sending them in might actually be the best way to go, especially if you're still under warranty.
That's tough! Were yours still working for regular listening? Mine seem fine, just won’t set up.
