Help Choosing a Windows Laptop for Programming

Hey everyone! I'm looking to buy a new Windows laptop for programming after many years with a MacBook. I'm getting frustrated with it, especially when it comes to overheating and loud fans during light tasks. I already have a powerful PC at home, but I need something portable since I only go to the office a few times a month. I develop apps in Flutter, work on websites, and dabble in game development with Godot. I also have a Mac Studio M1 Max for iOS apps, so switching to Windows seems feasible.

For my next laptop, I'm hoping for an OLED display with at least 120Hz refresh rate. I want something durable that can handle programming, building apps, and possibly some AI work while using WSL. I've heard good things about ARM laptops in terms of battery life, similar to my MacBook, but I'm not sure about compatibility issues. I'm not overly concerned with graphics since I can develop games on my desktop.

Ultimately, I'm looking for a portable solution that can handle websites, apps, databases, and servers, with a nice display, ideally under €2,000, but I'm open to options up to €3,400. Any recommendations or tips on whether to go with ARM, Intel, or AMD? Thanks for your help!

You might want to check out Lenovo laptops, specifically their T series. I’ve got an older T16 with 32GB of RAM and a Ryzen 5 CPU, and it handles everything I throw at it without any issues. Just steer clear of their budget models—they can be hit or miss.

I've been using a Mac for years, and honestly, I find them superior for coding tasks. I don't see a big advantage to upgrading so frequently; my old MacBook still runs well after several years, and it’s great for mobile and web development.

For programming tasks, especially in AI or graphics-intensive work, go for a higher-end model with an Nvidia GPU. But if you're focused on web development or less demanding programming, you really can save some bucks with a good Ryzen or an ARM chip.

I totally get wanting a Windows laptop that's similar to a Mac. If you're after great battery life and a smooth experience, I recommend looking into ARM or AMD options rather than Intel. Just remember that not all software runs on ARM, so make sure to check compatibility for your tools!
