Help! Cloning 1TB NVMe to 2TB NVMe Only Shows 1TB of Space

I cloned my 1TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe onto a new 2TB Samsung 990 Pro using a Maiwo NVMe Cloning device. The cloning seemed successful, but when I checked the new drive on my laptop, it only shows about 1TB of available space, with the other terabyte appearing as undefined space in Windows Disk Management. I can't seem to do anything to merge this space or format it properly. I've also tried connecting it to my MacBook, but it only detects 1TB as well. What's causing this issue? Why is half of the storage capacity not recognized? Also, I ran into a problem where the cloning process gets stuck at 25% after I tried to format it. Any suggestions?

It might be worth considering that some cloning software only copies partitions and not the drive's total capacity. Make sure the tool you’re using supports resizing the destination drive as needed during the clone process for full utilization.

I thought I was using the right tool since I cloned a smaller drive successfully! Guess I missed that point with the larger size.

It’s a common oversight! Gotta keep an eye on those options when cloning.

Have you tried tools like Partition Magic? They can help create partitions from the unallocated space and then merge them back. Just make sure the cloning software you’re using is capable of backing up the entire drive, not just the partition.

You should definitely try creating a new partition in the unallocated space using Windows Disk Management. However, if you want that entire drive usable as one partition, it's better to use third-party software that supports expanding partitions more effectively than the built-in tools.

I bought the 2TB to expand my main storage, I’d prefer not to just partition the unused space into a secondary drive.

Totally get that, I faced the same dilemma! Making the most out of that space is key.

It sounds like your cloning process just copied the original 1TB partition instead of using the entire 2TB capacity. You probably need to adjust the partitions manually. Try using a third-party tool like Macrium Reflect for the next cloning attempt since it's user-friendly and handles resizing better. Clonezilla is also an option if you're familiar with it. But ideally, you should have your partitions set up to utilize that full 2TB space after cloning.

Yeah, I had a similar issue before. It’s all about adjusting those partitions after cloning, but if you can’t change them in Windows, a tool like Macrium would definitely help.

I appreciate the suggestion! I'm not sure if I can use it right now since my cloning device only lets me work with one NVMe at a time. My main computer just crashed, so I'm stuck for the moment.
