My friend's computer stopped booting properly after he uninstalled OneDrive. At first, everything seemed normal, but then the PC suddenly shut down and only boots into the BIOS now. He managed to get back into Windows for a couple of brief sessions, but constantly faced crashes. He tried reinstalling OneDrive, but that didn't make a difference. The issue got worse, and now he can't access Windows at all. The repair options aren't working, and most commands aren't responsive or return errors saying they don't exist. Initially, the BIOS recognized the Windows Boot Manager, but it has since disappeared altogether. He's looking for a way to fix the problem without losing his files, especially his Office license. Any suggestions?

Have you tried booting with a Windows Live disk? You can use a tool called bcdedit to adjust the boot settings. This should let you define the boot partition and manage boot options.
Just to clarify on the previous point: if you pull files off the drive and then put it back into the broken PC, you can reinstall Windows. However, I'm not entirely sure if Windows now requires you to install on the same machine where it will run due to secure boot concerns. Anyone have further insights?
It sounds like the storage drive might be failing. If it's not encrypted, you can try pulling the data off it using a Linux USB drive. If you can access the files, plug the drive into another system or after backing it up, reinstall Windows on the same drive.
