Help! My iPad Air 5 Got Wet – What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I'm new to this forum and could really use your advice. Yesterday, I accidentally spilled a bit of water in my backpack, and unfortunately, my iPad Air 5 was in there. I didn't realize it had gotten wet until I turned it on today to take to college. The screen started flickering with one half looking fine while the other half had lines and was acting up. I did my best to just lean it against a wall to dry out, but after a few hours, the screen went completely black, although I can still tell it's responsive to the power button. I tried the restart method (volume up, volume down, then power), but no luck. I'm really unsure about what my next steps should be, especially since I still have the one-year warranty. Does Apple cover this type of damage? Is it something serious? I'm in med studies and really rely on my iPad. Thanks for any help!

You might want to try drying it out with some silica gel packets instead of rice—those are way more effective and won’t leave any residue. Just be sure to leave it for a good 5 days without touching it!

If you tried drying methods but it’s still not working, it could very well be a motherboard issue. Just be cautious with the rice method, as it can sometimes do more harm than good!

Yeah, I’ve heard rice can create dust or clumps that mess things up further.

Unfortunately, the standard Apple warranty doesn’t cover accidental damage like water spills. If you didn’t purchase AppleCare+, you might be faced with an expensive repair or needing to buy a new iPad.

That's a bummer! Maybe there’s still a chance to fix it without going for a new one.
