Help! My Laptop Is Infected with Malware and I Can’t Get It Fixed!

I'm using a refurbished HP 360x laptop from 2018 with Windows 11, and I'm at my wit's end trying to get rid of a persistent malware issue. I've run several malware detection programs, and Zemana found about 14 viruses, but every time I restart, the same malware returns. I'm starting to think I might have picked it up from a Google download or extension, especially since my Chrome keeps switching my search engine to 'coupons.net'. Just the other day, a bot changed a bunch of my settings while I was chatting with my roommate, so I'm really feeling lost here. I'm contemplating whether I should just buy a new computer or if it's feasible to hire a cybersecurity expert to help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can definitely hire a technician to help with this! They can remotely access your computer and clean it up for you. There are also great free tools out there, but I can’t drop any names here. A quick Google search for 'best free malware remover' should point you in the right direction.

If you're dealing with stubborn malware, sometimes the only solution is a fresh install of Windows. It sounds harsh, but it can be the cleanest way to get rid of everything. Just make sure to back up your important files first! What you might want to do is create a flash drive with your documents, but be careful—there's a slight risk that malware could transfer back if it's hiding in your files. Make sure your backups are clean before you do that!

Honestly, I would just wipe the whole thing and start fresh. You can find guides online to help you through the reinstall process. It might feel like a hassle, but it's often the best way to ensure everything is cleared out.

Just reinstalling Windows might be the simplest fix. After that, be sure to only download verified programs and steer clear of shady links to prevent this from happening again.

I second the fresh install suggestion! It's the most effective way to deal with malware that keeps coming back. Remember to update your antivirus software afterward and avoid dubious downloads.
