I'm building my first PC and ran into an issue. After successfully booting into the BIOS once, I tried enabling EXPO settings, but now my PC won't boot into the BIOS at all. I cleared the CMOS and removed my GPU, which allowed me to reset to optimized defaults and get back into the BIOS. However, when I reconnect the GPU, the VGA LED lights up and stays on, preventing further access to the BIOS. Interestingly, I can boot using integrated graphics if I remove the GPU completely.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- Loaded optimized defaults
- Cleared CMOS (also pulled the battery)
- Reseated the GPU
- Checked all cables
- Reseated the RAM sticks
What I haven't done yet:
- Update the BIOS (currently on version F6)
- Boot with only a single RAM stick
For reference, here are my specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B850 GAMING WIFI6
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL36
- GPU: ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB
- PSU: Corsair RM850e 850W Fully Modular Power Supply
Does anyone have thoughts on what might be going wrong or steps I can take to resolve this issue?

Have you checked if there are any diagnostic lights or hex codes on your motherboard? It might help to consult the motherboard manual for what those indicators mean.
So just to clarify, after you loaded the BIOS defaults, you still can’t access the BIOS with the GPU connected? Try booting with integrated graphics, then disable the onboard video and enable GPU settings if there's an option for that. Remember to turn off the power and unplug it when you connect the GPU.
Did you double-check the power cables to the GPU? Also, make sure your HDMI or DisplayPort cable is plugged into the GPU itself, not the motherboard. If all else fails, it sounds like you're doing everything right with the iGPU for now.
