Help! My PC keeps crashing after a BIOS update, could it be the CPU or PSU?

I've been experiencing major issues with my computer since I updated the motherboard BIOS. The setup was running smoothly until the update, after which I lost display output. A forced restart led to crashes that produce various BSOD errors, but I can't even make it to the home screen. I'm unable to complete a fresh Windows install since it crashes randomly—anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes into trying to boot.

Here's my current build:
- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
- **Motherboard:** Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX (I've since replaced it with a new board, but the issues remain)
- **RAM:** G.Skill 2x16GB DDR5 4800MT/s
- **GPU:** ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090
- **PSU:** Corsair HX1000i 1000W
- **Storage:** WD Black SN850X 2TB + Samsung 970 EVO 1TB
- **Cooler:** AIO Liquid Cooler (new thermal paste applied)
- **OS:** Windows 11

I've tried flashing the BIOS, replacing the motherboard, and testing the RAM sticks individually. My CPU temps are normal, and I've ruled out potential issues with storage. The system crashes under load, but seems stable in BIOS, and I suspect it might be a CPU issue since it's consistent across both motherboards. Could it also be the PSU?

You mentioned different BSOD errors, right? Those often point to driver issues or hardware failure. Since the CPU is the common component across the boards, it really might be worth looking hard at it. And just to be safe, check for any possible grounding issues with your case.

Have you tried getting dump files from the BSODs? Even if you're having issues starting Windows, you might be able to enter Safe Mode. Those crash logs can be really helpful for diagnosing the problem.

If the motherboard isn't the same make and model, a clean installation of Windows might be necessary. Back up essential files and give it a shot! Sometimes remnants from previous installations can cause instability.

I want to, but the crashes keep stopping me from completing a Windows install. It just won’t stay up long enough to finish!

It sounds like you might be dealing with corrupted drivers or failing hardware, especially since you've replaced the motherboard and the issues still persist. Since you've already tested the RAM and it's working, I’d suggest checking the health of your drives too—corrupted storage can definitely lead to those kinds of crashes. Maybe run a diagnostic if you can!

I ran the system without any SSDs, trying to boot from a USB, but it still crashed before Windows could start. Fingers crossed the RAM is alright!
