I'm having a really puzzling problem with my PC that's costing me a fortune. A few days ago, it suddenly shut off while I was using it, and wouldn't turn back on. I figured out the power supply was faulty and discovered the motherboard was damaged too, so I replaced both. After rebuilding, everything worked well for about 6 to 8 hours, but then it shut off again without warning, just like before. Now, it seems both the new PSU and motherboard might be gone too. I'm really stumped on this. It runs fine for hours, then completely dies. I even checked my GPU in another system, and it seemed okay. Could a short circuit, a faulty GPU under load, or maybe an issue with the wall power be the cause? Any suggestions would be awesome! Oh, and by the way, my setup is plugged into a power strip and an extension cable, but my husband's PC is using the same circuit and it's fine. There were no warning signs or anything before it died.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS? Sometimes motherboards refuse to work if they detect a short, and it could even be a faulty USB device causing problems. It might be worth a shot if you're in a bind!
Investing in a good-quality UPS can save your system from future issues, especially since you've already spent a lot on repairs. Also, make sure not to reuse any cables from the old PSU with the new one, as that could potentially burn your hardware. Double-check that the motherboard standoffs are correctly placed, and ensure that there aren't any shorts caused by case cables or buttons—it can happen!
It sounds like you might want to call an electrician to check the power from the wall. If you're experiencing power spikes bad enough to fry your components, that's a serious fire hazard. In the meantime, it might be wise to avoid using that socket or circuit until you know it’s safe. Even if it turns out not to be the issue, it’s worth it for your peace of mind!
Honestly, if your PSU and motherboards keep failing, it probably has to do with your house’s electrical system. Get in touch with an electrician ASAP to prevent further damage, it could get really expensive otherwise. And remember, your husband’s PC isn't showing issues, but that doesn't mean yours is in the clear; the electrical problem might still be isolated to your setup.
Thanks for the heads up! I’ll definitely look into getting that checked.

That’s a good idea! I’ll definitely consider getting the power checked out.
