Looking for Alternatives to Read Kindle Ebooks Despite Voice Issues

I'm facing a challenge with reading ebooks due to my vision impairment. I bought a kindle ebook, but unfortunately, there's no audiobook available for it. I tried using the built-in voice feature on my Kindle, but it didn't work well for me. I'm seeking suggestions on how to convert this ebook into a format compatible with my voice-to-speech tool, or any other solutions to help me read these Kindle ebooks on a Kindle Fire or another device.

If you share the title and author of the ebook, I can help find some alternative ways to get it into an audiobook format. I usually use a Windows app called Balabolka, which can generate speech from text. It has decent Ivona voices that work well. You might also want to check out ElevenLabs for natural-sounding text-to-speech, but it gets tricky when you have to edit long texts with those special directives.

It’s hard to give specific advice without knowing what tech you have, but I’ve had luck using the Kindle app on Windows with NVDA. JAWS is another option that can work. I was able to read Kindle books with VoiceOver on my iPhone about 12 years ago, and it worked well then, so it’s worth trying.

I read my Kindle books using the Kindle app on my iPhone, and it's pretty handy! I enable VoiceOver on my device, and it reads the book out loud for me without any major hassles.
