I'm posting on behalf of my partner who has just gone through a terrible experience. They've had their virtual SIM hacked, which means that the hacker now has access to their phone number. Because of this, they've changed all the passwords and 2FA settings on both their Google and Outlook accounts. Now, my partner can't log into their email since the hacker has switched the emails to their own. Without access to their phone, they've also found themselves unable to fill out the recovery forms for Google and Microsoft. This situation is really alarming, especially since all of their personal information is tied up in those accounts, and they have a holiday coming up next week. Can anyone offer advice on what steps can be taken in this situation?

Unfortunately, if the recovery options through Google and Microsoft aren't working for you, it's likely that those accounts are lost for good. I recommend reaching out to your provider to block the SIM card entirely if you haven't already. It's crucial to prevent any further misuse of your number.
