Help! My SD card seems bricked after using Raspberry Pi Imager

I was trying to set up Home Assistant on my Raspberry Pi 4, intending to help my friends. Before using BalenaEtcher for my setup, I tried the Raspberry Pi Imager. However, halfway through the process, the program unexpectedly closed. I thought it didn't work, so I tried to format the SD card again, but now I'm getting a cycle redundancy check error. I've attempted to format it through Powershell and also tried various tools like TestDisk and SD card formatters, but nothing has worked. I'm reaching out for help on two points: first, does anyone know how to fix this? And secondly, I really don't recommend using Raspberry Pi Imager; BalenaEtcher seems like a better option.

Make sure to try formatting the card without the quick format option. That could help with the cycle redundancy check error you’re encountering.

Keep in mind that software typically can’t brick an SD card. They’re quite fragile and often fail without much warning. Moving forward, consider investing in industrial-rated SD cards—they tend to be more reliable.

Have you tried using the SD Association's formatting tool? It’s usually quite effective. If that doesn't work, it's likely the card is dead, which can happen since SD cards aren’t as durable as we hope.

It sounds like your SD card might not actually be bricked but reports that it’s failing. Sometimes the imaging process exposes issues that were already there. Check if it’s a counterfeit card because that could be an issue too!

What brand of microSD card are you using? From my experience, Sandisk cards are generally the best for reliability.
