I recently discovered that someone has tried to register with my email address on an adult website, and I'm unsure who it could be. I've contacted their customer service, but I'm not expecting a response. I'm curious if they might be allowed to share the IP address or any information about the person using my email. Are there any other ways I can figure this out myself?

Haha, sounds like someone really didn't like you! Back in the old days, we’d just prank people by signing them up for random stuff. It's more of a digital prank now. But hey, have you considered just ignoring it? Life's too short to worry about internet goofballs!
You're probably not going to get that information unless you have a police report or a legal request. Even then, it’s a pretty minor issue and not worth the hassle of involving law enforcement. Plus, knowing the IP won't really help much—it could belong to anyone sharing a connection, so don't stress over it too much!
First off, it's a good idea to check your email on haveibeenpwned.com and change your passwords everywhere you've used that email. While that won't directly help with this situation, it gives you a heads up if your email has been compromised elsewhere. Usually, people use email addresses they find in data breaches, or it could be someone close to you messing around. Just stay alert!
This is really helpful advice, thanks!
Definitely good tips, I appreciate it!
Unfortunately, they won’t disclose any IP data, but if an account was created, they can delete it if you request. Just keep in mind that even if you got the IP, it’s not particularly useful. It won’t point to a specific person since someone could be on public WiFi, or a guest could be responsible. I wouldn’t get your hopes up about tracking this back to anyone specific.

Is it really worth going through the legal route for this? It feels a bit silly to me.
