Help! My SSDs Won’t Work After Windows Update

I have a 2TB WD Black SN850 NVMe SSD that had been running smoothly in my PC for about three years. After the Windows update KB5063878 in 2025, my system started to blue screen shortly after booting up, regardless of what I was trying to run—games, apps, you name it. I swapped the 2TB SSD out for a 1TB SSD, but ran into a similar issue and couldn't even install anything due to a 'disk that does not exist' error. I then decided to wipe the 2TB SSD clean and reformat it on another computer, where it showed up fine. However, when I tried to install it back in my original system, it failed to show up anywhere—neither in Disk Management, command prompt, nor BIOS. I'm in a bit of a pickle and can't afford to buy a new SSD. What should I do?

First things first, have you updated the firmware on both SSDs? Sometimes there are bugs related to the controllers that a firmware update can fix. After updating, try running a secure wipe on them just to reset things. Check if your BIOS is detecting the SSDs before diving back into Windows.

I updated the firmware of both SSDs before reinstalling, but still nothing shows up in BIOS or Windows. I'm starting to think it might be an issue with my OS or motherboard instead.

You should take a look at the dump files for the BSODs to get some more info on what's going wrong. If you can boot into Windows normally or even Safe Mode, check the C:WindowsMinidump folder for any dump files. Having multiple files would help in analyzing the crashes better. If you find some, zip them up and share them using a file sharing site.
