Help! Unauthorized Apple Charge on My Mom’s Card – What Should We Do?

So my mom's credit card is being charged by Apple without her permission, and they won't clarify what it's for! It's been happening for months, and we can't figure out why. The charge is for about $130, but we checked her Apple account and there's nothing listed that costs that much. We've tried changing card numbers several times, but the charges keep coming back. Has anyone here faced a similar situation? How did you resolve it?

Changing card numbers won't help, as the charge is likely linked to your mom's Apple account. Have you double-checked her subscription settings? Seems odd for a charge that big not to be visible in her account info.

We've looked through her subscriptions, and even added them all up, it doesn't match that amount. We've only got a couple on the account, and they're much cheaper.

Is your mom verifying her identity when she calls Apple? They won't provide any specifics without proper identity verification. If the charge is coming from a different account linked to that card, she might need to report the card as compromised. If it’s not logged under her account, definitely contact the bank about the suspicious activity.

This sounds frustrating! If Apple won’t share what the charge is for, it could be that the card's been linked to an unknown account. Have you considered denying the charge with the credit card company? They typically have procedures that protect consumers during such disputes, which might help get this sorted out.

Apple sometimes groups charges together, so maybe that $130 is a compilation of charges from things you might expect to be billed separately. But still, that amount feels unusual. Could it be something like a free trial that’s now auto-renewed? It might be worth checking any unknown subscriptions that could have started as a free offer.

If you can't find any invoices or information on her Apple account for those charges, it sounds like it could be an account compromise. Apple's refusal to share details might indicate that the card is linked to another account. It's worth reporting it to the bank and getting a new card to prevent future issues.

I know it sounds extreme, but you might want to escalate this to a higher level at Apple. There's a good chance they could help you further. Document everything and reach out to customer relations. Also check out Apple's privacy settings, as some charge details are often hidden, depending on the account type.

That sounds like a solid plan! Have you dealt with Apple customer support before? What was your experience like?
