I just got a new phone and I can't log into my Apple ID because I don't have access to my old phone! I know my Apple ID and password, but when I try to log in, it asks for a code from my old device that I can't access. When I select the option saying I don't have my old phone, it then requests a code sent to my phone number, which I also don't have access to. I initiated the account recovery process, but the estimated wait time seems outrageous, and I've been told that recovery is mainly for people who forgot their password. But I actually know my password! Can someone help me understand what's going wrong here?

It sounds like you’re trying to transfer your old phone number to your new phone, right? If that's the case, you should be able to do that with your carrier once you can access the account.
First off, have you activated your new phone? You need to have the same phone number on it. If the service isn’t activated, you’ll need to contact your carrier to sort that out before you can proceed.
Edit: Just to clarify, you need to be able to receive the codes sent to your number.
Just a heads-up, the two-factor authentication (2FA) is meant to keep your account secure. So, even though you know your password, Apple requires a code sent to a trusted device or number to let you in. If you don’t have access to either, you’ll have to go through the recovery process to regain access. It's a bit of a hassle, but it's all about security.

Thank you, this makes sense!
