Hey everyone! I've been bombarded with calls from the 629 area code—27 calls in just two days! I've tried everything, including blocking individual numbers, yelling at them, and even telling them I'm in consumer research to scare them off, but nothing seems to work. I can't even use my phone because it's constantly ringing. How can I block all calls from that entire area code? It's getting really frustrating!

If you're using a SIP trunk, your provider can often show you how to block calls coming from a whole area code or at least a range of numbers like xxx-000-0000 to xxx-999-9999. So that’s another avenue to explore if you're technically equipped!

I faced a similar problem when I was working in banking. I reached out to some contacts in telecom to see if they could help with blocking calls, and I think they mentioned something about blocking entire area codes on the trunk line. It’s definitely something your provider might be able to help you out with, so it’s worth asking!

From what I've learned, many telemarketers use a technique called 'spoofing,' where they fake the caller ID. This means blocking numbers won't help much because they could just change the number they're calling from. It’s frustrating, but unless you want to constantly block new numbers, just ignoring the calls might be the best tactic. The 'Do Not Call List' isn't really effective against these scammers either, as they often operate outside the law.

Unfortunately, if you're on a standard cell plan, there’s no straightforward way to block an entire area code. It seems like your best bet is to either ignore or screen calls from numbers you don't recognize, even though that can be super annoying.

One effective trick I use is to get a Google Voice number and publicize that as my 'real' number. It allows me to screen calls and only let through those that announce themselves. If I don’t feel like answering, I can just mute my ringtone easily without answering. Plus, to block an entire area code, you could create a contact named 'telemarketers' with every possible number combination, then block that contact. It's a bit of work, but it can save you from all those annoying calls!
