How Can I Change My Mom’s Apple ID Without Losing Data?

Hey everyone! I need some help with a situation regarding my Apple ID. My mom and I have been sharing the same Apple ID, but it's been causing a lot of confusion with phone calls and overlapping data. We want to get separate Apple IDs. My main concern is whether I can switch her phone over to her own Apple ID without losing any data, contacts, or anything important. Since I use this Apple ID on several of my devices, the change would have to be done on her phone only. I've read some scary stories online about data loss and losing contacts, and I'm also wondering if it could affect her WhatsApp. Any advice would really help!

Sharing an Apple ID is definitely tricky, especially since it's linked to iCloud, contacts, and all sorts of stuff like App Store purchases. If you switch her phone to a new Apple ID, she might lose access to her existing data, which is a major concern. It's really not recommended to share an Apple ID, but since you're already in this situation, your best bet might be creating a Family Sharing account. That way, you can keep separate IDs but still share subscriptions or purchases without the hassle. Just be careful during the transition!

I totally get where you're coming from! If you change her Apple ID directly, you could lose some of her contacts and data. It's crucial to back everything up first, maybe on her computer or using iCloud if she has access to it. And yes, if she's using WhatsApp linked to that Apple ID, changing accounts might mess things up with her chats. Have you thought about setting her up with Family Sharing? It's designed for situations like this to keep everything organized.
