I have a classroom set up with three switches connecting computers, and I'm looking for a way to disable them through code or a web login instead of just unplugging them from the wall. I keep thinking there must be a more elegant solution, similar to how you can manage settings on a wireless router. Is there a way for me to log in and disable the switches, or are they purely hardware devices? I'm using a Linksys model LGS116V2. I noticed from some responses that it might not be possible, but I'd love to hear what others think.

Have you thought about using a power strip with smart outlets? There are tons of options out there that might fit your needs. Just do a little research to find the right one for your setup.
Unfortunately, since the Linksys LGS116V2 is an unmanaged switch, you won't be able to disable it remotely. Unmanaged switches don't have that capability; they're just hardware with no firmware to interface with.
You might want to look into using an IoT power outlet that you can plug the switches into. Just make sure the security measures match your needs, especially in a classroom setting.
Looks like you're wanting features that come with managed switches but are currently using unmanaged ones. That's why you're facing this limitation.
That makes sense. I mean, the switches are literally 10 feet from me, so unplugging them isn't hard, but it's just annoying. Plus, I don't want someone to plug them back in without me noticing. But thanks for explaining!
It sounds like you might actually be able to disable ports on a managed switch if you have one further up the line. If you're trying to shut these switches down, I'm curious why they're even necessary?

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of.
