How Can I Disconnect My Phone from a Family Member’s Apple ID?

I've been using my first phone, which is linked to my mom's Apple ID, since 2018. It's mostly been fine until recently when we've had issues like texts being sent to each other unexpectedly and my AirPods connecting to her phone instead of mine. I really want to separate my phone from her Apple ID while keeping all my data intact, especially my photos. Is that possible?

You can definitely separate your phone from your mom's Apple ID! Here's what you need to do: First, create your own Apple ID at the Apple account sign-in page. Make sure none of your important data is stored offloaded in iCloud. Backup your phone just in case. Then, sign out of the shared Apple account and make sure to select 'keep data' when prompted. After that, log in with your new Apple ID and choose to 'merge data' if you get that option. Lastly, don't forget to disconnect your AirPods and any other devices from your mom's account and connect them to your new account. If you want, you can also set up Family Sharing later on!

That's a solid plan! Just keep in mind that once you switch to your own Apple ID, any third-party apps you have will still be associated with your mom's account. You'll need to redownload them with your new ID, which can be a hassle for updates. Just a heads up!
