How Can I Get an Ethernet Connection Without Drilling?

Hey everyone! I recently started a new work-from-home job, and they're sending me a desktop that has to connect to the internet via an Ethernet cable. The catch is, I share my apartment, and the modem is in the hall. I don't have an Ethernet plug in my room, and my landlord is strict about not allowing any drilling or heavy work. What are some ways I can set up a reliable Ethernet connection without messing up the place?

Consider using a Powerline Ethernet adapter. It uses your home's electrical wiring to extend your network, so you won’t need any drilling.

If your floor is carpeted, you could potentially run an Ethernet cable underneath it. Just keep it snug against the walls and near the door hinge. That way, it stays discreet. There’s also special flat Ethernet cable you can buy for this purpose if needed!

Great idea! But the floor is hardwood, so I'll need something else.

I see your point about needing that specific cable for a VPN. Have you thought about using a USB Wi-Fi dongle instead? It might help your situation since Wi-Fi is usually a viable option if the company allows it.

I appreciate the suggestion! I need to check if that will really work since they mentioned that a specific Ethernet connection is required.

I hear you, but I think they have specific requirements about that Ethernet plug.
