How Can I Install Linux Mint from a USB Drive?

I'm in the process of switching from Windows 11, but after the last update, my computer only boots to a blue recovery screen and I can't get past it. I'm using my phone to ask for help because I currently don't have access to a working PC. I have the Linux Mint ISO file on a USB, but the system won't boot from it. I read that Rufus could be helpful for creating a bootable USB on Windows, but since I'm stuck without a PC, I need guidance on other options.

Before anything, it's important to clarify if you've created a bootable USB or just copied the ISO to the drive. If you just copied the ISO, your computer won't recognize it as a bootable disk. Since you're stuck without a PC, consider using an app like EtchDroid to create a bootable USB from your phone. You’ll need a way to connect the USB to your phone for that.

If you only have your phone, you'll need an app that can help you write an image to your USB, like EtchDroid. This will allow you to properly create a bootable USB drive, which is essential since simply transferring the ISO won’t be enough.

First, you need to access the BIOS or UEFI boot menu to select your USB drive as the boot option. A common issue with Windows PCs is that 'Fast Boot' might be enabled, which skips the BIOS during startup. You'll need to disable that, but this requires access to Windows. If you can find an option in the recovery screen menu, great! If not, you might need to restore to a bootable version of Windows 11 just to make that change. Meanwhile, check online for the specific key combinations (like Esc, F2, F12, etc.) for your computer’s make and model to get into the boot menu.
