I have several old Windows computers, including a couple of desktops and laptops, that are no longer working. I want to recover the files from their hard drives. I also have a newer PC running Ubuntu. What's the easiest way to transfer the files from these old hard drives to my Ubuntu machine? I'm worried about whether the Windows files will be compatible with Linux.

You should extract the hard drives from the old computers and use a kit to turn them into external drives with USB connections. Ubuntu supports the NTFS file system, so you should be able to read and write your files without a problem. Just keep in mind that while you can access media files easily, applications may not work on Linux due to compatibility issues.

What's this kit called that lets you convert the hard drives to USB? I'd like to look into it!
