How Can I Organize Songs by Album on a USB for My Dad’s Van?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to help my dad by transferring some of his CDs onto a USB drive so he can listen to music in his new van, which doesn't have a CD player. The problem is, once I added the albums to the USB, they ended up completely mixed up instead of in the right order, even though I separated them into different folders. The van's display doesn't show the folders, and they all just play randomly. Is there a way I can properly organize the songs? Also, should I consider ripping MP3s from YouTube instead of using CDs? I appreciate any advice! P.S. my dad is pretty set on just using the USB without any streaming or phone options. Thanks!

There are apps like Mp3Tag that let you edit the metadata of your MP3s, which can help with organization. You can sort by artist, album, and track number. It’s got a trial version that should be enough for you to get your setup done! Just make sure to check how the van's player prioritizes file order after making edits.

Good point! I think there's other software out there too if you need alternatives. Mp3Tag is pretty user-friendly!

It’s worth noting that some players may also play files in the order they were copied to the USB. So, if the copying method is inconsistent, it could lead to a random play order. Experimenting with different copying methods might help you get a better outcome.

A good approach is to rename your files to include track numbers at the beginning, like "01 - Song Title". That way, they will sort correctly when played. I've done this before and it really helps with organization! Just make sure to keep that two-digit track number format at the start to ensure they play in the right order. Also, check your van’s manual or online forums specific to your stereo to see if it lists any quirks about file sorting.

Totally agree! It’s often best to have that numbering system. You might also try organizing them by the album name before the track number, like "Album Name - 01 - Title". That can help some players sort them better.

Check if your car stereo is set to shuffle mode. If it's on shuffle, that could be why your songs are all over the place, no matter how you arrange them on the USB. Sometimes there's an option in the stereo settings to toggle between playing in order or shuffle mode.

If you're putting songs in folders, be sure to keep things organized that way. Some car stereos recognize subdirectories better and can prevent that mix-up. Having a clear album structure could make a difference, so it might be worth a shot!
