How can I reduce bot traffic on my website?

Hey folks, I'm having a rough time with bot attacks on my client's site, and it's really messing with our business. We installed Cloudflare a few months back, which helped a lot at first. However, now these bots have generated a massive network of IP addresses that are bypassing Cloudflare completely, and it's causing our site to slow down to the point where customers can't place orders. I'm looking for any tips or strategies to help reduce this bot traffic. Is there anything actionable I can do to mitigate this issue?

Bot traffic can be relentless. If they’re bypassing Cloudflare, it might mean they’re hitting your origin server directly. Consider tightening your server settings to only accept connections from Cloudflare's IPs. This way, any request coming from outside their network gets dropped right away.

It's wild how these bots build networks. Make sure you know why they’re getting through your defenses so easily. Regularly updating your security rules and settings can help bolster your defenses against these attacks.

It’s surprising how they found a backdoor. Have you checked if your site is directly accessible through the origin IP? If so, you definitely want to lock that down. Also, look into rate limiting on your server to help control the traffic better.

I faced a similar issue, and we actually had to restrict all traffic from certain regions, like China and Singapore, to keep bots at bay. It might be worth looking into which countries are generating more suspicious traffic for your site.
