I'm having a frustrating issue with OneDrive after setting up my new Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop. During the initial setup, I had the option to restore from backup, which I unfortunately chose. Now my desktop is filled with old files and photos from my OneDrive, cluttering my space. I tried resetting my laptop and selecting 'start as new', but after a restart, the same old files reappear. I've factory reset multiple times and even deleted restore points, but nothing seems to work. I just want the files to remain in the cloud and not take up space on my device. Curiously, I noticed that the same problem has now happened on my desktop PC too. I want to keep my documents and photos synced to the cloud, but I don't want them to clog up my device. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Make sure you're not accidentally syncing your desktop. If that's happening, it might be what's bringing all those files back. If your clutter persists, you might want to think about not syncing certain folders to save yourself from future messes.
You can uncheck 'always keep on this PC' for any folders that you don’t want appearing locally. Just remember that you’ll need to choose a different setup if you want complete control over what stays on your PC, or you could consider uninstalling OneDrive altogether or even creating a second account. Otherwise, it can get a bit tricky!
You can actually uninstall OneDrive if it's really bugging you. It’s not essential for Windows to run, and setting it up again after a clean slate might be your best bet. Just make sure you've backed up any important files to an external drive first. After that, I suggest doing a ‘start as new’ setup and right away uninstalling OneDrive to avoid the same clutter issue. You can always access your files through the web version later!
But isn't OneDrive really convenient? I’m hesitant to ditch it completely given how handy it is for cloud storage. Are there any good alternatives?
True, it's free storage, but I prefer to keep my files easily accessible without cluttering my hardware. Maybe just use it for uploads and not have the app installed?
I didn’t sync to my desktop—it just forced all the files back. I like keeping my folders visible for quick access, and I don't mind some organization.
