I have an old camcorder that uses tapes for recording, and I really want to transfer a bunch of childhood videos to my MacBook Air. Unfortunately, the screen on the camera is broken, so I can't see anything. I usually connect it to my TV using the A/V port to watch the videos. Can anyone advise me on the best way to get these videos onto my Mac? What cables or software would I need?

If your camcorder is a Sony Handycam DCR-HC118E, try connecting it with a USB cable to your Mac. Since you can view videos on a TV, it means they should be accessible through your Mac when plugged in. Just keep an eye out for any necessary converter if your Mac doesn’t have the same ports.
Actually, if your camcorder plays videos from tapes, it likely doesn't have a Micro SD card. You can check if there's a FireWire or USB connection. A FireWire cable might be needed for some older models, but you might need an adapter for newer Macs. Once connected, look for video capture software on your Mac, or try the Image Capture app.
It might help to know the model of your camcorder and the specific model of your MacBook Air. For most older cameras, the built-in Image Capture app on macOS is what you’d use for importing videos. Just connect the camera via USB, and you should be able to access the files directly.
