I recently got my iPad back after it was stolen, along with my MacBook. Unfortunately, the person who took it knew my Apple ID info, and I had to detach my devices to protect my privacy. Now, my iPad is locked, and I'm struggling to get back in. I'm wondering if the thief put their own Apple ID on my iPad and if there's a way to regain access. Any help would be appreciated!

To unlock your iPad, you'll need to submit proof of purchase to Apple support. You can start that process at al-support.apple.com. Good luck!
How did the thief even get your Apple account info? Ideally, you'd have Theft Protection enabled, which would prevent changes to your account without verification through Face ID or Touch ID.
I specifically mentioned the thief wasn't random; they knew my Apple ID information since the first line of my post clearly states that!
Can you log in using your passcode or Face ID/Touch ID? If not, that's likely where you're stuck. In the future, if you lose a device, avoid removing it from your Apple account. Instead, just lock it through the Find My app; that way, thieves can't access your data.
The thief knew my password to the iPad and used it to locate me. I could not change my password because I was no longer in possession of the iPad. Currently, I am stuck on the password lock and think the thief logged into the iPad with their own Apple ID and created their own passcode.
Working on this now. Thank you so much!
