I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to set up conditional formatting rules in Outlook to highlight messages in my inbox based on whether I've replied to or forwarded them. Has anyone done this or know if it's possible?

I looked at that too! The tricky part is trying to apply rules to the original incoming messages. I can change stuff for sent items, but modifying the properties of the original messages is a bit tougher.
