I recently picked up an HP EliteBook 8530p from a thrift store, and it's running Linux with the Cinnamon desktop. Honestly, I'm not too sure what I'm doing here. All I really want to do is wipe the system and install something easier to use—like Windows—so I can burn some CDs and watch my Garfield DVDs. The computer doesn't start like a usual Windows machine; it shows a lot of code first, which is super confusing. I also don't have any passwords or access to the current accounts, so is there a way to just wipe everything and create a new account?

The easiest way to handle this is by installing Windows on it. Grab a USB drive, at least 8GB, and flash a Windows ISO onto that drive. Once you have it ready, you can boot from the USB and go through the installation process to wipe everything and start fresh with Windows.
But just to confirm, you can only install Windows 10, right?
