How Do Security Updates Work for Linux Mint?

I'm thinking about switching from Windows 10 to Linux Mint mainly for privacy reasons, and I've heard that Linux is less vulnerable than Windows. One of my concerns, though, is how the security updates work on Linux. With Windows, I got regular patches and updates, but I'm curious how this works with Mint. Who's responsible for delivering those security updates? Do they come out quickly? Also, is there a built-in malware scanner like what Windows has? Thanks for any insights!

Linux Mint gets its security updates primarily from Ubuntu, since Mint is based on it. Most updates are managed by them. There isn't a built-in malware scanner, but as long as you stick to the official repositories, you should be safe. Definitely check the Debian wiki for guidance on maintaining your setup without issues!

Good tip on sticking with the official repos! And yeah, for longer support, it's recommended to use LTS releases.

Regular updates are part of the Linux experience! For distros that use releases, make sure to keep an eye on their website for support periods - when yours ends, upgrading is usually the way to go. If you're on a rolling-release distro, you're typically supported as long as updates are being released, so just keep your system updated to avoid potential breaks later.

Will I get notified when updates are available?
