How Does Steam Handle Game Files on Linux?

I'm using Bazzite Fedora with KDE and I'm trying to get my bearings on the operating system, especially with Steam pre-installed. I want to compare it to my Windows setup to see how I can customize my games. However, I'm struggling to locate the files for my installed games. Does Steam have a special way of storing these files on Linux that makes them hard to find? Could it be related to the fact that it's running Windows games? Also, if I'm modding a racing game by saving image files into its directory, will that still work on the Linux version?

Just to clarify, Proton isn't emulating Windows; it’s a compatibility layer based on Wine, which means it translates Windows calls so that your Linux can understand them. The installation files are in a specific directory but might not be labeled in an intuitive way. Your best bet to find them is still through Steam’s option to 'Browse Local Files'.

If Steam’s storage drove your confusion, look in the ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common directory for your games. That's where they’re typically stored by default. If you're modding, locating the files there should allow you to save your images directly into the game’s folder just like on Windows!
