I dropped off my laptop for repairs last Monday and I'm a bit concerned about the timeline. I was told they would probably look at it the next day, but a week later, I've heard nothing. They mentioned they were testing a new NVMe drive for accurate diagnosis, but isn't a week a bit excessive for that? I was expecting at least an update or a quote after a full week. Is it normal for diagnostics to take this long?

A diagnostic for a laptop shouldn't take longer than a couple of hours at most, provided they have all the necessary parts. If they’re making you wait for a week, it might indicate they’re overloaded with work or not prioritizing your repair. Communication is key and the whole situation sounds a bit off.
Right? I get that they have other customers, but I think you should still expect a basic update by now. It’s frustrating!
This whole thing seems fishy to me. Sometimes reviews can be misleading, especially if they all came in at the same time. A proper diagnostic, if done correctly, should only take a day or two at most. If they keep dragging it out, you might want to rethink whether they’re the right shop for you.
I had that thought too! They seem reputable, but lack of communication makes me doubt them a bit.
Definitely keep a close eye on their responses. If you’re not getting straight answers, picking up your laptop might be a better option.
It really depends on the shop's workload and staff numbers. If they’re busy, it could take longer. Still, if they told you they’d check it earlier, that’s concerning. I suggest calling them for a status update; sometimes they just need a little nudge to get back to you.
I get that, but after the original timeline, I thought I’d at least get a diagnosis by now. It’s just frustrating when you’re left in the dark completely.
Totally understandable. A quick call might help clear things up.

Exactly! Testing a drive shouldn’t take that long. After my recent experience, I realized that if they don’t keep you updated, it’s a red flag.
