I'm looking to build a PC primarily for work and gaming, transitioning from consoles. Currently, I own the latest Xbox, PS5, and a MacBook Pro with 64GB of RAM, which I use for video editing and graphic design. I'm considering selling most of my console setup to finance this PC build. The appeal for me is the ability to customize and upgrade components, especially since I want to leverage more AI tools, which I understand work better on a PC.
As I'm a complete beginner with PC building, I'm curious about how far I can stretch a budget of $1,000 just for the PC itself, since I already have a monitor. Do I need to save up an additional $1,000 for a decent setup? I'm also interested in recommendations for essential components or helpful resources like YouTube videos and forums.
To make the most of my budget and for the fun of it, I'm keen to buy all the parts separately and build the PC myself, rather than going for a prebuilt option.

If you’re building a PC from scratch, you might be stretching it with just $1,000 for decent performance, especially if you’re looking for higher-end specs. A lot of people recommend starting with around $1,100 to $1,200 to include components like the AM5 motherboard and a solid CPU like the 7700X along with 32GB of RAM and a good GPU. Check out some used parts, though, those can save you a ton!
What kind of monitor are you using? It can really affect your build. If you have a Samsung 32” ViewFinity 4K, you’ll want a powerful PC to handle those graphics. It sounds like a fun project but definitely consider how much power you’ll need for both gaming and particularly for video editing!

Thanks for the tips! I'm hoping to get the specs right for editing and gaming.
