Hey everyone! I'm considering making the shift to Linux and I've been testing out different distributions. I'm currently using an Asus X552C with an Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce GT 710M, 8GB of RAM, and approximately 1TB HDD. I want something that can handle light gaming, everyday use, and allows for deep customization without straining my hardware. I've tried Ubuntu with KDE Plasma, but it didn't quite feel right. Now, I'm testing CachyOS through Oracle VirtualBox with 50GB for storage, 128MB video memory, 4GB of RAM, and 2 CPU cores.
As I prepare to install and set up CachyOS, I'm having second thoughts about my manual disk partitioning approach. Can anyone offer guidance on the recommended way to partition a disk for a setup like this?

If you're not facing any issues with the default partition scheme, it might be best to stick with that. It's usually optimized for a variety of installations, so don't worry too much unless you have specific needs!
I’d recommend looking into getting at least a 128GB SSD for your root partition; it’ll significantly speed things up. But if that's out of your budget right now, you can make do with what you have.

I'm really focused on manual partitioning right now, so I'm hoping to find specific guidance on that.
