How to Decide Partition Sizes for Root and Home When Dual Booting

I'm planning to dual boot Windows and Nobara Project on separate drives, but I'm unsure about how much space I should allocate for the root and home partitions. Both operating systems will be used primarily for gaming, but I'll keep Windows for games that don't run on Linux, like Valorant. That's why I've got a smaller 500GB drive for Windows. I anticipate using Linux as my main OS, where I'll store photos, music, messaging apps, and other files. Here's my setup: Windows on a 500GB SSD, and Linux on a 1TB SSD. Any advice on partition sizes would be appreciated!

You could simplify things by not having a separate home partition. Just combine it with root. This way, you only need to manage one size, and it makes things easier overall.

That's the traditional view, but keep in mind that if you ever want to reinstall or switch distros, having a separate home makes it easier to keep your data intact.

If you're using Btrfs, you might consider not preallocating space for root and home. Just let them share the same space as subvolumes, which means you won't have to worry about running out of space in one of them. It keeps things flexible!
