I just joined a small but growing startup as their fifth team member. During negotiations, I was in a tough spot since I had been unemployed and was eager to accept the offer, so I agreed to a lower salary with a plan to renegotiate after three months and annually thereafter. However, I didn't realize I would need to provide my own laptop as I assumed this was standard, especially since all my previous employers supplied equipment. Unfortunately, I don't have a personal laptop, and the only way to get one would be to go into debt, which I'd rather avoid since it's not a work-from-home position.

I truly believe in the potential of this company and want to contribute long-term, but I can't afford to take on debt just to work there. How can I approach my employer about this situation in a professional manner? I'm considering options like asking for a small sign-on bonus to cover the laptop or requesting a raise to offset the costs. Has anyone experienced something similar at a startup?
