I recently bought a Bluetooth headset and connected it to my PC, which has an external Bluetooth adapter. The headset pairs fine and recognizes the microphone, but it just won't work or show any audio output when I try to test it through Windows. This problem also occurs with other Bluetooth earbuds I've tried. What can I do to get the microphone to work?

Yeah, I've noticed that too! Bluetooth can be super finicky. Try checking in the Control Panel under Sound to make sure your headset's microphone is set to default. If that doesn't help, maybe resetting the Bluetooth adapter could do the trick.
Honestly, Bluetooth on PCs can be a total pain! It's really hit or miss. Sometimes it's a setting issue, but other times it feels like the whole system's just being stubborn. Have you checked if your headset microphone is set as the default device in the Sound settings? That's usually a good first step.
I did check the Sound settings, and it’s recognized there, but it still doesn’t work. Maybe I need to look into my drivers or something.
