How to Force Application Scaling on 4K Monitor with Linux Mint 22.1?

I'm using Linux Mint 22.1 with the Cinnamon desktop and an Nvidia RTX3080 graphics card, with the latest Nvidia drivers installed. My monitor is set to 4K resolution with 200% scaling, which looks like 1080p. Most applications seem to scale properly, but some, like the Battle.net launcher for World of Warcraft and the Guild Wars 2 launcher, run in 4K without scaling, making them too small to read. While WoW works fine once in-game, GW2 still has scaling issues. I can switch to 1080p with 100% scaling, but I prefer to play games at 4K. Is there a way to enforce scaling for these applications? Thanks!

You could try running your desktop at 1080p and writing a bash script. This script would change the resolution to 4K, launch your game or Steam, and then change the resolution back to 1080p after you're done. It could save you a lot of hassle!

Scaling can be a real mess on X11, and unfortunately, Linux Mint is going to be using X11 for a while. If you want better scaling support, it might be time to consider switching to a different distro that supports Wayland, especially one that uses KDE Plasma.
